In his book, "The Future of an Illusion", he says that God is the paternalistic Christian God formed by the primitive human mind, in an effort to explain things beyond its ken and to rebuff the horrors that may arise due to ignorancy Freud also believes that from childhood, a traditional version of Christianity is infused within individuals, and which leads to an easy process of assimilation into our social and national consciousness of a culture. He also points out that this inculcation is so deep-rooted that things are never questioned and carry on as traditional knowledge. This hegemony, or social conditioning, continues even upon attaining maturity from where the religious illusions becomes prone to asserting a kind of social and psychological dogmatism, that suppresses questioning and doubt, and we retain that childish version of religion, even in becoming adults with acute powers of reasoning of rationality. In colonial America there was a distinct sexual division of labor. Men were property owners and heads of households. A man’s responsibilities included staple crop farming, hunting, and skilled craftsmanship in order to produce commodities for market (An Economic History of Women in America Pp. 30-33). Women were responsible for a variety of different jobs. In the home and the fields women ensured the survival of the family. They were responsible for child rearing, housework, food processing, cloth and clothing manufacture, candle and soap making, household furnishings, and farm chores (EHWA P. 31). A few unmarried women would work outside the home as domestics or farm servants. Women would also handle the sale of handicrafts and household manufacture. In the early nineteenth century only a very small fraction of women in the United States worked in the agricultural, industrial, and service areas of the market sector. Wages of women relative to those of men were exceptionally low within the area of agriculture. With the spread of industry, relative wages for women increased, and their employment appeared to be linked to the technological advances of the factory system. As the country became more industrialized, more women began to work outside the home, in factories and in the clerical sector, and their wages began to increase relative to the wages of men. Late in the nineteenth century there was a rising demand for clerical workers. By 1890, only 18.2% of adult women participated in the labor market. Of that 19%, 40.5% were single women (aged between fifteen and twenty-four). Only 4.6% were married women. (HPAE P. 560) It was not until the twentieth century that married women entered the labor force in any substantial way. Darkness, why are we so afraid of the unknown. Many including myself are paralised by the thought of an unwelcomed presence, I dare not turn my back in fear that my thoughts may be real. Although that same compelling fear has never stopped us from venturing into the unkown. Whether it’s being out there amongst the vast emptiness of space or delving deeper into our subconcious mind, two vastly different concepts yet they may be more similar than you could imagine and Christopher Nolan has a great depiction of both in the movies Inception and Interstellar two sci-fi cinematic siblings that may seem worlds apart but might be more similar than you suspect. In inception, Cobb explains how our brains are most utilized when we are asleep. In this newly discovered dream realm he is able to fill it with his subconscious memory of things, places and people making it seem like they’re awake and it’s all actually happening, the however dreams have many layers and are complex in including the deepest layer of dream – limbo (Boston Magazine, Yiqing Shao, 2014), an infinite subconscious reality where you could be stuck in your own mind forever while your body degrades in the real world. Whilst in interstellar, Cooper travels through wormholes altering space and time to arrive at far and distant planets via 5th dimensional  beings that â€Å"helped† them out. The similarities here are that in both movies we are introduced two interesting and new mediums of sub-realities, and what I found out is that there is 3 planets to be uncovered in interstellar as there are three layers of dream in inception, in which both main leads must figure a way to circumvent disaster in hopes of seeing their children o nce more. Love is a tremendously powerful and inspiring force and has been proven to be as such time and time again, it is love that drives humanity through their hardest struggles and what brings out that last fight from our beloved characters. And this is something that has been cultivating throughout both the films Inception and interstellar, only emerging in death bed scenes. For Inception, it is Fisher a boy that has big shoes to fill and no one to guide him, yearning the approval of his sickly father that never batted an eye towards him. For Interstellar it is Cooper his urge of reuiniting with Murph once more which drives his compassion further as a father his instinct to survive kicks in, here we see the similarities between Fisher’s will abd determination to patch things up with his father and Cooper’s struggle to find a solution for mankind and get back to his beloved children. Heroes are an essential elements of any film. They do the things where the ordinary can’t and in these two films we’ll be taking a look at the similar hero complexes of both films. In Interstellar, Cooper looks for a new substitute planet to save the human species. In Inception, Cobb tries to plant an idea inside of Fisher’s mind to prevent a global energy monopoly. Although those are the main plots of the movie, we can see their personal goals are actually similar to each other which is getting back home and reuniting with their children once more. Cooper has to fight time in order to fulfill his promise to his daughter of coming home before she passes. Whereas in Inception, Cobb’s similar promise to return home to his children after being banned from ever returning to the country (America). Time misrepresentation as a recurring unexpected result of venturing through these different realities. In Inception, the characters have the great pleasure (although surely not the safety) of taking their time as they delve  deeper and deeper into the recesses of the psyche (Screen Rant, Kofi Outlaw, 2012), since time slows down which means to say 5 minutes in the real world would give you roughly about 5 hours in the dream and times slows even more as you delve deeper. But for interstellar time is the exact opposite, as Cooper and the Nasa team travvel farther and farther away from Earth to uncover habitable planets. Since hours on a new planet are equivalent to decades back on Earth time moves significantly faster. Cooper finds himself spending 27 Earth years after merely spending 3 hours on another planet, when he arrives back to the ship the emotional toll was too drastic and Cooper broke down along with most of the audience as I imagine. The similarities here are of that time is an essential key point in both their missions. The emotional obstacle in interstellar is time, as the perculiar effects of gravity manipulates the flow of time on different areas of the universe (Time moves slower for Cooper). Christopher Nolan ( goodreads.com , 2011) stated that and I quote, â€Å" I studied English Literature. I wasn’t a very good student, but one thing I did get from it, while I was making films at the same time with the college film society, was that I started thinking about the narrative freedoms that authors had enjoyed for centuries and it seemed to me that filmmakers should enjoy those freedoms as well.† And narrate freely he did. Entirely original films that are becoming increasingly rare among the output of the other studios. Andrew Jackson may have been the most popular president in the history of United States. Andrew Jackson was elected as a president for his democracy and he was still getting votes from electors fifteen years after he died. But was Andrew Jackson democratic at all? He didn’t democratically act in a lot of circumstances like being partial to the poor, not paying attention to the Native Americans or not listening to Van Buren that caused a big scandal in society. Jackson was born in 1767 on the border between North and South Carolina. He was a kid with a wild streak that grew up in a poor family. His childhood was so dramatic and full of events that they made him be brave and experienced in situations. Jackson was voted for the presidency in 1828 and was reelected in 1832. He was said to create a new era of real democracy in America. But like other men, Jackson was not democratic at all and he was also claimed as behaving more like the king. First of all, Andrew Jackson was not democratic because he gave more power to the poor and seemed to be partial to them. While it was democratic that he tried to balance the power between the rich and the poor but in this circumstance, he totally took down the rich. In Document 3 which is a political cartoon, Jackson holds a veto in the left hand and a scepter in the right and tramples on the Federal Constitution and The United States Bank. It was said that Jackson was fear on the rich and powerful who may cheat the acts of government to their own selfish benefits so he vetoes the Congress’s bill to recharger the Bank in July in 1832 and removes the deposit. In fact, Jackson was doing more damage to the bank and he biased against the wealthy men in command. He may have little or no trust in what the Congress and government had deemed to be in the country best interest. In Document 5, Jackson â€Å"inflame the poor against the rich†, The rich and powerful are also People but Jackson didn’t listen to and follow their wishes. That was not democratic. In Document 2, Daniel Webster compliments that Andrew Jackson was democratic. It seemed to be contrary to his reply to Andrew’s Bank veto that Daniel totally criticizes Andrew for turning against the rich. But we can see that Webster claimed that: â€Å"Jackson was the hero of the dirt farmer.† It supported that Andrew Jackson is so partial to the poor and just stand for their sides. Jackson did have democratic ideas but his ideas didn’t actually benefit all people. This was undemocratic as it didn’t benefit all people that he took the rich down and just cared for the low class. Additionally, Jackson also acts undemocratically that he didn’t include the Native Americans. In Document 3, Andrew looks like a king although he is president because of not taking care of the Native Americans and some tribes. Since a president takes to care for all people, Jackson just cares of part of them and abuse for his power and acts only in his best interests. Based on Document 8, Jackson persuaded the Native American but actually forced them and some tribes to west of the Mississippi. It means that he kicked them out of U.S. Jackson was not democratic because he moves them to such useless land as the land was ruined and poor. Despite looking to the citizens of U.S. well, Jackson wasn’t paying attention to the suffering that he was inflicting on Native Americans. This one side shows that Jackson was not a democratic president as many people think he was. The pinnacle of being undemocratic of Jackson was in Document 7, â€Å"Jackson refused to listen. Andrew went against all reason and showed a great lack of good judgment when he appointed one of his homies who is a notorious thief. Although Andrew Jackson, as I stated, was an undemocratic president, he was still kind and compassionate and still has little democracy. Based on Document 11, Jackson adopted a child and took care of him. He wrote letters to his wife that he would adopt an Indian son, Lynconya, â€Å"I send him to my little Andrew and I hope he will adopt him as one of our family. And the letter on December 28th, 1823, Jackson wrote that â€Å"Tell Lyncoya to read his book and be a good boy and obey you in all things.† We can see, Jackson was still democratic as he adopted an Indian boy and also buried him in the family cemetery when he died at age 14. Throughout Jackson’s life and his presidency and with the above evidence, Andrew Jackson was not a democratic president at all. He unfairly acted in several circumstances but he was also democratic and kind of adopting an Indian boy. I conclude Andrew Jackson was not as democratic as many people thought he was.
